During our final two weeks of our unit focusing on "Ancient civilizations contributed to modern day societies and technologies," students have been researching in groups about a specific civilization. They are preparing to present their information in the coming days. When "teaching" the other students about their civilization, each group has to share:
  • civilization location
  • 5 inventions
  • fun facts
Each group had to choose a way to present their information and prepare an activity for the class to participate in related to an invention. Groups created posters, power points, plays or Promethean flipcharts. Activities include word searches, creating amulets, headdresses, pottery, and clay soldiers. Photos of these presentations and final products will be posted in the photo gallery, but you will also be able to view the student work in person on January 25 from 2:45-3:30 in our classroom at our unit's culminating event. Student work from these presentations will be on display.

In addition, for homework each child will need to create a diorama or model of one ancient invention and write a paragraph about how it contributed to today's societies and techonologies. Information regarding this at home project will go home Tuesday, January 15th and will also be posted here in the Newsletter section. The model/diorama and paragraph is due Thursday, January 24th. These will also be on display on January 25th at our unit's culminating event.
